Résumé

It is 1937 and Julien Dubois is apprenticed as a pastry cook in Dôle. Julien is happy: he discovers the wonderful scent of hot pastry, the joy of creating ephemeral masterpieces, the chef's friendship, the freedom of the streets which he rushes down, a basket on his head, at the whim of his old bicycle, Hélène's love, labor solidarity, and responsibility. When the book ends, he is sixteen, but he is already a man.
